On February 6, Wellton Hospital successfully concluded a special lecture and technology exchange event, having invited executives and staff from Stryker Korea — the Korean arm of the global medical device giant — to the hospital.
The Lecture
At the event, Wellton Hospital Director Song Sang-ho took the podium to deliver a talk titled "55 Years of the Exeter Stem & Wellton Hospital's 25-Year History."
As a Stryker-certified Exeter Master — a distinction recognised by Stryker's global headquarters — Director Song drew on his extraordinary depth of experience to deliver a detailed lecture covering total hip arthroplasty (THA) using the Exeter Stem, reflecting on 25 years of surgical practice and more than 7,700 procedures performed at Wellton Hospital.
Director Song holds the title of Exeter Master, awarded by Stryker's global headquarters — recognising surgeons with exceptional expertise in the Exeter Stem system for total hip replacement. His 7,700+ Exeter Stem procedures over 25 years represent one of the largest single-surgeon case volumes in Korea.
The Exeter Stem: A 55-Year Legacy
The Exeter Stem is one of the most clinically validated hip implant components in orthopaedic history, with a track record spanning more than five decades across the world. Its polished, tapered design has been subject to decades of long-term follow-up data, making it a benchmark implant in total hip arthroplasty.
Director Song's Vision
"For the past 25 years, Wellton Hospital has focused on planting and carrying forward in the Korean medical field the legacy that Exeter has built over more than 55 years — a legacy of dedication to the patient. Going beyond the mere adoption of a medical device, we will continue to move forward as a partner that shares the medical principles and spirit contained within it, drawing together a new future for hip surgery." — Song Sang-ho, Director, Wellton Hospital
Wellton Hospital's International Medical Activities
Wellton Hospital has built a reputation as a centre of expertise in hip and knee arthroplasty, and continues to run overseas medical professional training programmes alongside international academic activities. The hospital regularly welcomes visiting surgeons and medical delegations from abroad — including recent visits from Indian medical teams — reflecting its growing role as a hub for orthopedic knowledge exchange in the region.
The hospital is located at the Wellton Mediplex building directly in front of Magok Naru Station Exit 1, Gangseo-gu, Seoul, and is accessible via Airport Railroad and Metro Line 9.
